The way forward for newspapers requires two separate paths for transformation – one in the legacy print business and one in the emerging digital business. They have critical intersections but also many independent capabilities. The Transformation Tour brings together the best of the American Press Institute and The Poynter Institute to offer workshops on seven topics critical to the success of the industry.
The tour features two strategic workshops for news media professionals presented by Clark Gilbert, president and CEO of the Deseret News and Deseret Digital Media. A recognized leader on innovation, he guides cross-functional teams through top-level presentations and in-depth discussions on proven and evolving ways for publishers to excel in reshaping content strategies and business models.
Transformative Business Models highlights the best practices of industry leaders who are creating new digital revenue streams through sales strategies, paid content models and e-commerce.
Gilbert discusses the most salient lessons learned and how publishers can apply them to their operations, including practical approaches for using business model dashboards, empowering legacy channels, alternative paid-content strategies, building direct and long-tail channels, and developing adjacent marketplaces with classifieds, deals, directories, partnerships and local reseller models.
Send cross-functional teams to both executive workshops to learn together through networking and small-group discussions. Directed by expert facilitators, teams can tackle the issues that most affect their organizations and take home step-by-step plans that are tangible, measurable, achievable and profitable.
Newspaper leaders are strongly encouraged to attend all three strategy workshops in the executive series:
